Benefits of using rosemary oil for hair
An often overlooked part of our beauty routine is our hair and scalp, but it's important to remember that a healthy scalp is the key to beautiful and strong hair. A natural way to care for the hair and scalp is by using rosemary hair oil .
In this blog post, we will dive into the benefits of rosemary hair oil and how it can improve your hair and scalp health.
ROSEMARY OIL FOR THE HAIR: A NATURAL SOLUTION
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is an aromatic evergreen herb that belongs to the Lamiaceae family, which also includes other well-known herbs such as mint, basil, lavender and sage.
The plant originally originates from the Mediterranean area and is cultivated today in many parts of the world for its culinary, medicinal and cosmetic uses.
A popular ingredient in natural beauty and hair care products, the oil is extracted from the leaves of the rosemary plant and is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and other nutrients that benefit the hair and scalp.
BENEFITS OF USING ROSEMARY OIL FOR HAIR
1/ PROMOTES HAIR GROWTH
Rosemary hair oil can help stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, which leads to better nourishment of the hair follicles and thus promotes hair growth. Several studies have shown that rosemary oil can be as effective as Minoxidil, a drug used against hair loss, but without the same side effects ( see source* ).
In this before/after photo you can see my, Maria - founder of Mellow Mind, own results using Mellow Minds Hair & Scalp Oil 1-2 times a week for 2 months.
2/ FIGHTS DANDRUFF AND DRY SCALP
Thanks to rosemary oil's antibacterial properties, it can help fight dandruff and dry scalp. The oil can also help maintain a healthy balance of the scalp's natural oils and reduce inflammation, leading to a healthier scalp.
3/ STRENGTHENS THE HAIR
Rosemary hair oil is rich in antioxidants that help protect hair from damage caused by free radicals, which can otherwise lead to hair loss and reduced hair quality. The oil also helps to strengthen the hair's keratin structure, making the hair stronger and more resistant to breakage and damage.
4/ IMPROVES HAIR'S SHINE AND APPEARANCE
Regular use of rosemary hair oil can help improve hair's shine and texture. The oil is moisturizing and helps to seal moisture in the hair, making it more supple and shiny.
HOW TO USE ROSEMARY HAIR OIL
To achieve the best results with rosemary hair oil, we recommend using the oil as a hair treatment on the scalp and following these steps:
1/ Massage the oil into the scalp: Apply 1-2 pipettes of oil in divided sections where you want increased hair growth or have delicate and dry areas. Massage with the fingertips in circular motions or with the Mellow Minds Gua Sha comb to stimulate blood circulation and promote the absorption of the nutrients from the oil.
2/ Distribute the oil in the lengths: Then distribute the oil evenly through the hair from roots to tips. Be sure to cover all areas, especially if you have dry, damaged or frizzy hair.
3/ Let the oil work: Let rosemary hair oil sit in the hair and scalp for at least 2-3 hours, or even better, let it work overnight as an overnight scalp treatment. This gives the oil time to penetrate deep into the scalp and hair. If you have long hair, we recommend that you put it up with a silk scrunchie to spare the hair even more.
4/ Wash your hair thoroughly: After letting the oil work, wash your hair with a mild shampoo bar and finish with a conditioner bar to close the strands.
HOW FAST WILL YOU SEE RESULTS WITH ROSEMARY OIL?
As with anything else, use the oil regularly and follow the recommended steps to achieve the best results.
For visible results, it is recommended to use rosemary hair oil 1-2 times a week as a hair treatment. If you have very dry or damaged hair, you can increase the frequency to 2-3 times a week.
It is no surprise that we at Mellow Mind love rosemary as an ingredient, and that several of our products contain organic essential rosemary oil. In addition, our Hair & Scalp Serum contains rosemary water, which we have focused on in this blog post. (link)
